Images of the Bell Slip- Spotted bee-balm (Monarda Punctata L)

Spotted bee-balm  Monarda punctata L. (MOPU) aka Spotted bee-balm or Dotted horsemint is a perennial found in a sand community on Buffalo's Outer Harbor in and around the Bell Slip. During the 2016 season over 1,000 plants with thousands of flowering heads were located here. It is native that populates the sand community that we see at this location. This plant is also a source of nectar and can be used by and pollinated by the endangered Karner Blue butterfly which once included this area as a part of its range.
